Zsolt Szepessy, the mayor of Monok said if civil unrest would break out in Hungary, as a result of the deteriorating economic conditions that should be put down by force. According to the mayor, there is enough money in the system to keep it going. He recommends cutting back on welfare payments and stimulating economic activity instead.
He suggests that job creation should be the first priority and the task should be left to the municipalities; this is in opposition to current system that provides welfare payments to the gypsies without asking questions--a practise that reproduces poverty on a grand scale. He wants a system that reminds welfare recipients for their responsibilities when it comes to accepting handouts.
The mayor of Monok said that the current system was similar to a parent that gave pocket money to his child just to keep him silent. This practise is one of the main sources of tension in the Hungarian society.
