50 gypsies go to England to find happiness

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

From the village of Ivan, 50 gypsies set out to go to England. For the time being only for six months; but if they will be satisfied, they might stay and hopefully others will join to them.

The gypsies want to work as gardeners.

A special gypsy enterprise has been formed for arranging their transportation.

The mayor of the village, Tibor Vass said that he was happy to see the gypsies going because unemployment among them were very high. He said that this was an opportunity for the gypsies to get job abroad.

There are 300 gypsy families live in the village. 90 percent of them out of work. The municipality helps them, as much as it can. In February, it gave 100 thousand forints to the gypsy minority council to distribute the money among the families.

The president of the gypsy minority council said, he hoped that the gypsies will find a happy life in England.
