Civil rights ombudsman Máté Szabó recanted his earlier statement about gypsy crime in Hungary, just as Galileo recanted his views regarding the shape of the earth. Both had been forced to deny the obvious because of the official dogma of the day.
A few days ago, in an interview, Máté Szabó said that there was gypsy crime in Hungary and that the Hungarian population had to be notified about this particular kind of criminality. Gypsy criminality has a tribal characteristics that makes it very dangerous. Gypsies are committing their crimes in gangs and most of the time, execute them with extreme violence.
This is what every sane Hungarian knows. This is a fact that Máté Szabó merely confirmed. But to state the obvious could be dangerous in times like ours. This is what Máté Szabó learned the hard way when civil rights and minority rights leaders accused him of racism and demanded his resignation.
The official dogma, today states that criminality has no ethnic of cultural background.
Mr. Szabó threw ashes on his head and almost wept when he re-confirmed his support for the equality of all races. He said, " If my statement made anyone believe that I stepped over a constitutional limit by spelling out the unspeakable, I would like to say that the way, I renounce similar opinions by others, the same way, I renounce my own words--neither in thought, deed or word, I intended to violate the constitution, I swore up".
