Baghdad. An American soldier in Baghdad has been charged with the murder of a Hungarian contractor, the US military said on Sunday, quoted by AFP.

Private First Class Carl Stoval was formally accused on Saturday of having shot the contractor in Taji, just north of the Iraqi capital, on an undisclosed date, a statement said.

A member of the US army's First Cavalry Division, Stoval was detained on March 26.

The US military refused to provide further details, saying they were critical to an ongoing investigation.

[Update]
It turned out that the Hungarian victim was employed by TOIFOR and was a gypsy. His name is Tibor Bogdán; he was 30-35 year old man and the resident of Nagyrad. He was the president of the local chapter of the Lungo Drom gypsy organization. The family and the Hungarian government was notified soon after, he had been killed but then the government didn't release the information to the public. He was killed on an American base in Taji, in Iraq. There are speculations that he was killed because the American solder mistook him for an Arab.
