Előd Tóásó started writing his prison diary

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Hungarian Ambassador to Argentina knows nothing about the supposed deal between Előd Tóásó and the prosecutor of the Flores case, as it was reported in the media. However, Károly Nagy, the Foreign Secretary of the The Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta Federation of the Autonomous Priories that hired the defense lawyers for Tóásó said the prosecutor had offered a deal for his client. If he pleaded guilty in the crime he has been accused of, he would receive five year jail term and after two years, he would be released on parole.

However, both the lawyers and the representative of the Order said that Tóásó had committed no crime.

Tóásó is held in pitiless conditions. His prison cell is dark and has a glassless window; because of this, he suffers a lot from the cold. He gets meal two times a day, a bun for breakfast and for launch, either a small bowl of rice or soup. No supper.

According to Károly Nagy, these are substandard conditions and his client's most elementary rights are violated. Tóásó still hasn't been gotten an interpreter; he has hard time communicating with his lawyers because both of his English and Spanish are limited.

Another problem is that the charges against Tóásó still haven't been released. No one knows what exactly, he is accused of, not even his lawyers. Currently, there was a smear campaign against Tóásó in the local press that might influence the outcome of a fair trial, said Károly Nagy.

Probably to kill time, Előd Tóásó started writing his prison diary.

Comments: The fact that the charges against Tóásó still hasn't been released suggests that the case against him is shaky to say the least. This might explain why he still doesn't have an interpreter; it seems that authorities are obstructing communication between Tóásó and his lawyers; this might be to undermine the effectiveness of his defense.
