Krisztina Morvai's letter to the Hungarian farmers: a summary

Saturday, May 16, 2009

1) Farmlands should be kept in Hungarian hands, after 2011.

2) Hungarian farmers should get the same amount of subsidy like their western colleagues! Not after 2013, but right away.

3) The Hungarian market has to be protected from cheap foreign food products.

4) The Hungarian government and the EU should support family oriented farming, rather than big factory-like productions that came to be as a result of selling off the communist based collective farmlands.

5) We have to rebuild the Hungarian food industry and the local food processing plants.

6) It is the job of the government to find market for Hungarian farmers by using EU funds. Let's organize a food market in every locality; let's start a nationwide promotion campaign for the consumption of locally produced organic products.

7) Save and develop local communities. Small villages have to be made livable again. Local communities need schools, post office, transportation and the necessary services to become livable. Crime should be brought under control. Local communities need security! The gendarmerie has to be reestablished.
