The Hungarian Guard Association has been banned by a court decision

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Caving in to political pressure, a court decision disbanded the Hungarian Guard today. Tamás Gaudi Nagy, the lawyer representing the Guard said he would appeal the decision at the Highest Court of Hungary, as well as at the European Court in Strasbourg.

Gábor Vona said the decision could have a tragic effect because it went against the people's sense of justice.

Tibor Drakovics, the Minister of Police and Law Enforcement, an ex-apparatchik and a distinguished Hungarian hater, and Orban Kolompar, the gypsy chief, a repeat offender, welcomed the decision.

In a statement the Hungarian Guard said that nothing has changed regarding the operation of the Guard.

The court decision affects only the Hungarian Guard Association, which is a civil
association and independent of the Hungarian Guard. The Guard is a voluntary assembly of free citizens operating in accordance with the law that grants the fundamental right of assembly for every citizen.
