The iron curtain came down twenty years ago

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Today is the 20th anniversary of the coming down of the iron curtain between Austria and Hungary, that “triggered the collapse of the Soviet style communism in Europe”. The Hungarian Evangelical Churches organized a three days program with Austrian and German church participants, in Sopron to celebrate the anniversary.

During the three-day event attendants watch TV footages about the historical event and some of the main actors of the period will deliver speeches praising the event.

In retrospect, one has to ask at least two questions regarding the celebration. Do church officials really believe that there is reason to celebrate an anniversary that turned out to be a fake event? Do they believe that the occasion is something worth celebrating at, rather than admitting that it was a farce, a carefully planned show organized by shadowy forces in order to expand their power grip on the nation?

Under the cover of this fake event ex-communists reorganized themselves by fooling the naïve population into believing that a better life awaiting them in the democratic system.

Former Prime Minister and ex-apparatchik Gyula Horn is cutting the barbed wire fence on the Austrian-Hungarian border, in 1989.

It is clear that the exact opposite has happened; exploiting the euphoria of the day, the worst kinds of criminals successfully transferred their power base into the emerging system and through proxies, they have been continuing their treasonous activities ever since. During a relatively short period of time, they sold the country out to their global masters turning peoples living standards into third world level.

Today, an increasing number of people start realizing what actually happened in 1989. A bit late but nonetheless, a hopeful sign, because the so called coming down of the iron curtain was neither historical nor glorious but criminal. So what are the churches celebrating at?
