Krisztina Morvai: the end of an era (excerpts)

Monday, July 6, 2009

“On the 1102th anniversary of the battle of Pozsony and on the 7th anniversary of the blockade of the bridge, the Hungarian National Resistance has arrived to a turning point. Gábor Vona, the president of the new force, rising like Phoenix, did what the leader of the opposition should have done seven years ago, during the 'blockade of the bridge' and during the fall of 2006, in Budapest when the police force of the Gyurcsany government indiscriminately beaten up peaceful pedestrians and arresting and torturing hundreds of others while demonstrating against the lies of the government.

I think, they (the opposition) too, want to defeat the current dictatorial regime; but this cannot be done just by arguing or boycotting parliamentary sessions. The looting of the national wealth is continuing and the population has been sinking ever deeper into poverty and into third world like chaos. Even if the opposition didn't agree with our goals—stopping colonization and protecting people from criminals by the Hungarian Guard—they could have come with us protesting against police terror and against the blatant violations of fundamental rights and freedoms. They didn't do it; unlike Gábor Vona.

He (Gábor Vona) stood in front of the riot police, peacefully but determined letting the cops seize, handcuff and jail him publicly; doing all this out of solidarity with his compatriots.

With this event, an era has come to an end; the era, when we endured colonization, the destruction of the agriculture, the dismantling of the industrial base of the country, poverty and the emergence of a few millioners and their foreign masters.

I believe, that if in 2002, the country would have had a politician like Gábor Vona and people had known him, today, Hungary wouldn't be a third world colony. We wouldn't be in a shameful situation, as a member state of the EU, that the government could violate our rights on the daily basis by using police terror and politically motivated procedures against us.

In power, Jobbik will pursue totally different approaches in all areas of life. Jobbik will be in solidarity with farmers, workers and small businesses, not like a 'distinguished foreigner' but will stand shoulder to shoulder with the common people.

I believe that Jobbik by encouraging the opposition into action, will take the country back from those who have stolen and taken it hostage, because for us, this is the only home left”.
