Előd Novák: Jobbik will expose the crimes of politicians

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

In the future, Jobbik will be focusing on exposing politician's crimes. The party's information campaign uncovering government sponsored gypsy crime has already produced result, as the idea has become part of everyday discourse. The next step is to bring to light issues that are inscribed in the law, yet morally unacceptable--when politicians holding multiple positions, at municipal and state level.

Jobbik will target the rules of double-jobbing. In Hungary, it is quite common that the mayor of a big city, at the same time member of the parliament. In other countries, for instance in Canada, politicians cannot hold conflicting positions.

One of the classic examples of this anomaly is the case of Zoltan Pokorni, a Fidesz member of parliament that also member of Budapest city council and the mayor of the twelve district. He has been collecting salaries from three different employers.

Out of 176 Fidesz parliamentarians 135 hold, at least, two payed positions. Another obscene example is the case of the chairman of the Budapest Transportation Company (BKV) that has been collecting salaries from 19 additional employers.

Jobbik's constitution forbids its members to hold conflicting positions. Jobbik members cannot hold positions at the municipal and state level, at the same time.
