About 500 university students demonstrated in Révkomárom, in Felvidék demanding linguistic rights for the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. About 10 percent of Slovakia's population speaks Hungarian as their mother tongue.
Speakers demanded that Slovakian authorities stop intimidating Hungarian speaking citizens for using their mother tongue.
The demonstration has been organized by two students, Tamás Méri and Krisztián Litomericky, with the backing of the the Selye János University Student Association.
According to kuruc.info news portal, eight young demonstrators have been arrested by Slovakian police for carrying “Árpádsávos” flags, the symbol of the thousand year old Hungarian statehood.
