Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that the government doubles the amount of payments to the victims of communism after meeting organizations for political prisoners today.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Secretary to the Prime Minister János Lázár participated at the Hungarian Political Prisoners and Forced Laborers joint commemoration service Monday afternoon on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Communism held on February 25 each year.
Those suffered prosecution and the loss of liberty for an unlawfully prolonged duration in the communist era receive 50 percent pay raise this year and another 50 percent starting January 1st, 2014 said the prime minister's office.
The measure also includes those that deported to forced labor camps in the Soviet Union, and the victims of show trials during the post-1956 retribution period.
