Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, accompanied by State Secretary for Sport István Simicskó and the Chairman of the Hungarian Swimming Association Tamás Gyárfás, handed over Hungary’s bid for the International Swimming Federation’s (FINA) 2021 World Championships.
At the end of February, Tamás Gyárfás informed FINA about Hungary's intention to bid for the 2021 World Championships. In late March, PM Viktor Orbán met FINA’s Secretary General and Chairman of the European Swimming League (LEN) Paolo Barelli who assured the prime minister of FINA’s support for the bid.
Besides Hungary, South Korea, Japan, China and the United Arab Emirates are also among the bidders. The selection procedure will take place on July 19 by secret voting of FINA Executive Committee.
