Hungarian wines win 11 gold medals in Bordeaux

Eger wineries won 4 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals at Bordeaux Wine Competition.

By winning 18 medals once again Eger has become Hungary's most productive wine producing region at the “International Challenge du Vin” contest, which is the world's most prestigious wine competition said László Zentai, city council spokesman to MTI on Wednesday.

38 countries in five continents participated in the competition and the jury sampled approximately five thousand brands.

Hungary won 11 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals of the 40 medals awarded at the competition.

Besides Eger, Szekszárd (4 gold, 1 silver), Tokaj (2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze) and Villány (1 gold, 1 silver) wineries have been awarded with medals in Bordeaux.

The Eger gold medal winning brands include Nimrod Kovacs Winery (2011 Pinot grils and 2007, Rhapsody), Vincze Béla Winery (2009 vintage Arcanum Cabernet Franc) and Gróf Buttler Winery (2011 Gróf Butler).
