Viktória Schmél won the gold medal Sunday in Croatia Porec Cadet Fencing World Championships.

The Hungarian Association website reports that junior European champion Viktória Schmél advanced into the final by defeating Belarus, German, Polish and Brazilian opponents. In the final, 17 year-old Viktória Schmél defeated U.S. Massialas 15 to 11 winning the gold medal of the tournament in the women's category.

How do you feel as a world champion?

"Oh my God! It is incredible! Now it's great, but in the beginning it was very difficult. I do not like left-handed opponents; with the Belarusian girl I had a hard time. But the most difficult was the semi-final against the Brazilian girl. But finally I managed to defeat her as well! In the first half of the final I was the best. Now I am very, very happy! "
