Three time Olympic champion kayaker Natasa Janics-Dusev planning another baby

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Natasa Janics-Dusev missed this year's World Cup in Szeged, but she will be evaluated during the pre-selection testing period two weeks from now. By watching the World Cup races with her daughter Milana the three-time Olympic champion kayaker told that she is planning another baby only the timing is in question – either the next year or after the Rio Summer Games.

You missed the Szeged World Cup and you are not a member of the Hungarian national team yet, but two weeks from now the pre-selection evaluation for getting into the national team begins. How do you feel about your level of preparedness?

We'll see when I will be in the water, nothing more I can say about this right now. I've done everything I could to be in top shape, I trained very hard.

How much distraction has the controversy about your decision to switch country caused in your training schedule?

Even those days, I trained continuously, so it didn't affect me. When I decided to come back to Hungary, I concentrated only on training.

Your daughter will be 2-years-old soon, doesn't she distract you from your training schedule?

Now, it is much better. The past year the problem was that after her birth I couldn't train the way I wanted to for about three months. I couldn't relax enough because of the obligation to take care with my daughter. But, now everything is back to normal, I can train and I can relax as well and I also have time to play with my daughter. One thing that I can't do: watch competitions with her because she is very lively and I have to run after her all the time.

Have you settled down in Győr already?

Most of the time, I train in Szeged and Szolnok, so the answer is not yet; everything is determined where I train, and since there is no still water training opportunities in Győr, I have to find other places to train.

Regarding kayaking, you said nothing has changed. But how have you survived the past couple of months mentally? Are you not afraid that fans in Szeged will be unfriendly with you?

I understand that some people got confused about what happened, but I try to deliver results. Anyway, I try not to listen to the controversy, and I'll continue doing so in the future as well.

Do you think you can endure until the Rio Summer Games?

I am confident, but all depend on getting into the national team. The Hungarian women's canoe-kayak team is very strong.

And what about family planning? You adore your little daughter.

There will be a brother of Milana that's for sure -- either, the next year of after the Rio Olympics.
