Government extended the emergency until July 19

Water levels are dropping in Budapest, but the situation is still fluid, the government asked citizens to remain vigilant. The fight against flooding shifts to the south.

In the meantime a severe storm hitting Budapest with 80-90 km/h winds. Officials are worrying that the strong wind might damage the dikes. Volunteers and civilians have been sent home only members of the emergency response team remain on the dikes.

Water levels at the Győr region have dropped to such an extent that the Hungarian Defense Forces have started withdrawing from the area and moving to the south where the water is still surging. The defense forces set up new posts on the left bank of the Danube River near Baja and Kalocsa and on the right bank at Székesfehérvár and Decs said the ministry of defense.
