Wine is a free implementation of Windows on Unix. WineHQ is a collection of resources for Wine developers and users.
originally it was called a combination of the words linux and microsoft and microsoft took them to court and lost. They sold it and it had different names eg. freespire and some others .After the free original was released you would have to be a tech geek to implement it or pay for support and upgrades which would have cost more than paying microsoft over the years.
