Chinese naval vessels heading to Syria

Friday, September 6, 2013

Hardly a day has passed since Rome sent two warships to the Eastern Mediterranean, three more Russian destroyers have been dispatched to the region.

There are scattered and unconfirmed reports that several Chinese warships are also on their way to the Eastern Mediterranean, despite the fact that China has been remarkably restrained and quiet about recent developments in Syria.

The Beijing government has not yet formally confirmed how many warships are heading for Syria. Based on several unofficial Chinese websites, and the records contained on social networking sites, it is likely that the ship named Jinggangshan is already in the region. There is no official information released yet about the other Chinese ships heading to the region.
