Parliament passed the social funeral legislation

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Starting January those in need can ask for social funeral from the municipal government.

According to the new legislation, the state will assume some of the costs of the funeral; it provides free burial plot, free coffin and takes care with the storage of the corpse. The relatives of the deceased person in return, have to take care with all other procedures relating to the funeral; this includes washing and dressing up the body, digging out the grave, transporting the body to the burial site, lowering of the casket in the tomb and burying it; but there are also other conditions.

According to the President of South Transdanubia Funeral Society, one of the shortcomings of the new law is that it provides a fertile ground for illegal work.
