The 37-year-old, 31-time world champion kayaker was always a maximalist aiming high, very high. She was satisfied only with gold medals. Before a medal presentation ceremony this year after winning silver medal Kovács said she felt she was going at her own execution.
"The baby wasn't planned, it just happened despite the fact that I and my husband talked about it a lot. I am very happy because I feel that the baby comes into my life in the best time" said the four months pregnant athlete to Molcsapat.hu.
She learned about her pregnancy after the World Cup ended in early September.
Regarding the question whether this means the end of her career, Kovács couldn't give a clear answer. "This is a question that is difficult for me to answer. I'm still training every day. I don't contemplate finishing my career because I want to continue. Yet, it is difficult to foresee what the baby and the new life hold in store for me."
Kovács said earlier she still wanted to compete at the Rio Games.
