Megrázó vers a Katona József Színház előadásán

Elhangzik napjainkban Budapesten, a Katona József Színházban, az Illaberek előadásán, a hatása ledöbbentette a közönséget.

Exploring Anti-Semitism in Hungary

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Photo: Fejer Balint/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images

An openly anti-Semitic political party has gained power in Hungary’s Parliament in recent years, fueling fears that the Eastern European nation is experiencing a rise in anti-Jewish sentiment. Ninety percent of Hungarian Jews who participated in a recent survey by a European Union agency ranked the bias in the country as a “very big” or “fairly big” problem. The growing talk of anti-Semitism in Hungary has prompted the government to respond with a call on Hungarians to accept responsibility for the role played by their country in the Holocaust during World War II and to redouble efforts to commemorate the Holocaust.

Bogár László: Kentaurok karácsonya

Az ókori görög kultúra mitológiai szerkezetében máig ható szimbólumok sokaságát alkotta meg, s e szimbólumok valójában az emberi létezés legalapvetőbb összefüggéseit tárják fel számunkra, máig ható érvényességgel. Ezek egyike a kentaur. Lássuk először is, mit ír a kentaurokról a lexikon. „A korai attikai és boiótiai vázafestményeken úgy ábrázolták őket, hogy egy emberalakhoz kapcsolódik egy ló fara, később már úgy, hogy egy emberi torzóhoz kapcsolódik egy ló marja, ahol a ló nyakának kellene lennie.”

Üdvözöljük to Hungarian, one of Europe’s most curious languages

"It’s like singing," says one fan who can’t speak a word of it
By James Thomson, for CNN

Arriving in Hungary one damp Easter Sunday a couple of years ago, I was greeted by a sign at the train station reading: “Üdvözöljük Miskolcon!”

Beneath it was the translation: “Welcome to Miskolc!”

Those were to be the last three recognizable words that I read or heard in the following 24 hours.

I quickly realized that the traveler's usual trick of listening out for familiar-sounding words wasn’t going to be very productive in Hungary.

Because while the Hungarian language does use Latin characters, that’s where its kinship to virtually any other European tongue ends.

Who Were the Essenes?

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Since the archaeological discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1946, the word "Essene" has made its way around the world--often raising a lot of questions. This brotherhood--more or less persecuted and ostracized--would bring forth people who would change the face of the world and the course of history. Indeed, almost all of the principal founders of what would later be called Christianity were Essenes--St. Ann, Joseph and Mary, John the Baptist, Jesus, John the Evangelist, etc.
