Gül Baba Memorial Day in Budapest

Conversations, guided tours and concerts will be held as part of Gül Baba Memorial Day in Budapest on March 21 organized by the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO jointly.

Gül Baba Memorial Day is designed to strengthen cultural ties between the two nations by organizing historical, literary and artistic programs to academics and interested visitors emphasizes the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center.

Programs begin with a panel discussion of Gul Baba's life, works, and philosophy Friday morning in the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre in Budapest with the active participation of Turkish guests and Hungarian researchers.

The program continues at Gül Baba's tomb in the afternoon, where Ibolya Gerelyes, the head of the Hungarian National Museum Archaeological Department gives a presentation of the history of the building.

The closing event of the memorial day will be held at MOM Cultural Center where Hungarian and Turkish guest musicians pay tribute to Gül Baba and Yunus Emre.

Gül Baba was an Ottoman poet and companion of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who took part in a number of campaigns throughout Europe. Gül Baba is thought to have died in Buda in 1541 during the siege of Buda.

During its most recent reconstruction a Turkish café house and an exhibition hall were added to the pilgrimage site.
