Several thousand people gathered in the main square of Csíkszereda Sunday morning attending the traditional blessing of the food for Easter Sunday festive breakfast. Food consecration is centuries-old tradition in Székely Land. The Easter delicacies include lamb, and egg dishes that symbolically relate to the resurrection of Christ.
The Easter food blessing ceremony is considered a community feast. "People expect that their first breakfast after 40 days of fasting to be consecrated,” explained Vince Bíró to Sunday news.
"The baskets hold just enough food that the family can consume. My mother taught me that not a morsel of food that is consecrated to be thrown away" recalled Julianna Bíró.
