After 99% of ballots counted (which is pretty much the final result) Fidesz received 51.49% of the vote, followed by Jobbik with 14.68%, the Socialist party 10.92%, the Democratic Coalition 9.76, Egyutt-PM 7.22% and the LMP 5.01%.
According to “Magyar Nemzet”, Fidesz - Christian Democratic party received 53.47 percent of the Votes on the basis of the preliminary results followed by Jobbik with 15.1 %, the Socialist party 11 %, the Gyurcsany led Democratic Coalition 9 %, and the Együtt-PM 6.1 %.
At 6:30 pm, just before the polling stations closed down only 27% of eligible voters bothered to vote in the Sunday's EU parliament elections; the low voters turnout indicate that the overwhelming majority of the Hungarian people understand that it makes no difference who goes to Brussels as the country has no control over its own affairs as it is managed from Brussels.
Former Czech president Vaclav Klaus accurately summed up the situation by saying: The EP elections are unnecessary because they do not give a true democratic legitimacy to the European Parliament because of the low voter turnout. "A low voter turnout is proof that more and more people are aware that controlling Europe from a single center is a mistake".
The former president also said that 25 years after the fall of communism it was the first time that he had difficult to bring himself to cast his vote; he also remarked that didn't even bother to read the programs of the various parties.
