One of the key objectives of the reopening of Consulate General in Hong Kong in November last year was the use of non-traditional diplomatic means to promote Hungary in China. Participation in the traditional dragon boat race and the popularity of the Hungarian team greatly enhances Hungary's image in the region said the consul general.
Training for the race mobilized a large part of the Hungarian community in China; trainings are also great community building activities. The Hungarian team's long term goal is to become a force in the Dragon boat race by building on the world famous Hungarian aquatic tradition. The team's main sponsors include Graphisoft, Wiseville that specializes importing Hungarian wines in China, Hungarian language school Global Citizen and Pottyflip from Hungary.
The Hungarian team trains once a week and despite being a rookie team it already achieving mid-performance results. The team's strength and technique are already sufficient, it still needs to be improved in coordination said Culture, Education and Sport Affairs associate of the Hong Kong Consulate General Diana Danyi.
As the only national team that competes in the boat race, Hungarians enjoy great popularity in China, which is enhanced by Zoltán Herczeg's beautifully designed costumes.
