Aleksandr Zaharchenko: "Ukraine will never be the same again"

Friday, October 31, 2014

The main reason for this is that too much blood were spilled in the past couple of months - said the leader of Donetsk Republic Aleksandr Zaharchenko.

The People's Republic of Donetsk and Ukraine can trade with each other, but they can never live together again said the head of the unilaterally proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk.

Until the first casualty we've said there was still hope. But after the first drop of blood was spilled between us all hopes have been lost; how can we live together after this? Yes, we can trade with one other, but we can never live together again - said Zaharchenko to Russian language news site.

Zaharchenko remarked that the citizens of Ukraine may even envy them.

Let them be envious, the results already speak for themselves... We have started the heating season in schedule without raising rents and other services.

Donetsk and Luhansk counties held a referendum on May 11, 2014 and as a result, the two counties declared their independence.

The Ukrainian army launched an "anti-terrorist operation," against the Moscow-backed rebel forces soon after the two counties declared their independence. Since then, according to UN figures, more than 3,700 people have died in the fighting. However, the real number of casualties are much higher than the official data suggests.

Donetsk and Luhansk hold a general election on November 2. In the two republics nobody cares if the west do not recognize the election results. The key is that Russia recognizes it - said the Prime Minister of DNK Alexander Zaharchenko.

According to the European Union, the general election contradicts the Minsk agreement therefore, does not recognize its results. Moscow says the election takes place in accordance with the Minsk convention, and recognizes it.
