Lavrov: Russian-US relations have reached a dead end even before the start of the Ukrainian crisis

Monday, November 10, 2014

Bilateral talks in Beijing between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry took place in a time when relations between the two countries are deteriorating and have already reached an unprecedented low.

One of the reasons for the worsening relations is the Ukrainian crisis, the other one is the economic sanctions that the West have introduced against Russia.

Commenting on the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov remarked that relations between Russia and the US is now not only "frozen", but in many areas they have reached a dead end, and this situation developed well before the start of the Ukrainian crisis.

According to Lavrov, dialogue with the US is complicated by the fact that Washington does not even try to take into account the interests of its partners. Russia and the United States position on the Ukrainian crisis widely differ and the two sides have not reached a consensus yet.
