Jobbik welcomes Russian President Vladimir Putin's Budapest visit

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Jobbik party welcomes Russian President Vladimir Putin's Budapest visit said the vice-President of the Hungarian National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Márton Gyöngyösi to MTI.

Gyöngyösi stressed that his party has always been a supporter of the eastern partnership policy, and looks to Russia as a strategic partner, both economically and culturally.

He added that the Ukrainian crisis makes the geo-strategic, bilateral links between the two countries even more important. It is unacceptable that Hungary only takes a position as a member of the Western alliance, when it should take a unique position due to the precarious situation of Transcarpathian Hungarians. In order to promote peace and stay out of the escalating Ukrainian crisis Hungary should even risk confrontation with its western allies. It is unacceptable that the Hungarian government blindly follows Western scenarios even sacrificing Transcarpathian Hungarians on the altar of western interests.

The expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant, the South Stream pipeline project, and trade and economic interests dictate to keep good relations with Russia said Gyöngyösi.
