The prospects of Russian-Hungarian bilateral relations are extremely good commented Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Vladimir Putin's upcoming Budapest visit in February.

Russia and Hungary are linked by old friendly relations stressed Lavrov adding that there were difficult times in the past but due to mutual understanding and sympathy between the two countries current bilateral ties are very good from which both countries are benefiting. He recalled that recently he met Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in Moscow.

Lavrov added that he keeps in touch with his Hungarian counterpart by phone, and they regularly discuss issues interest of both countries like the Ukrainian crisis or energy security in the changing world.

Lavrov called the cancellation of the South Stream pipeline project regrettable, which was mainly due to the policy of the European Commission.

The South Stream pipeline is now a thing of the past. We have an alternative plan in which Europe already showing interest referring to the Turkish Stream. I expect that the alternative plan will eventually be realized, which improves or exceeds Europe's energy security - the pipeline will protect Europe from current transit problems referring Ukraine.

We are ready to develop relations with Hungary in various fields of which energy only one of them added the Russian foreign minister.
