Budapest and Tehran establish sister city relationship

Budapest Municipal Council has decided on Monday to establish sister city relationship with the Iranian capital.

At the invitation of Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf a delegation led by Budapest Mayor István Tarlós will visit the Iranian capital in early May.

A proposal adopted under the Hungarian-Iranian bilateral agreement states that both sides are interested in expanding, and deepening political, human and economic relations between the two countries.

Hungarian language city and road signs have been vandalized in Transcarpathia

Hungarian language city, road and tourist signs have been vandalized and Hungarian flags were torn apart by unknown perpetrators in Ungvár and the surrounding municipalities in Transcarpathia. Ukrainian police launched an investigation in the case.

The perpetrators sprayed black paint over Hungarian language city signs and vandalized many of the road signs.

In Eszény and Tiszaásvány - both villages located near the Ukrainian-Hungarian border - unknown perpetrators ripped the Hungarian flag from the local high school building and community center and vandalized Hungarian language traffic signs.

BUDAPEST — Hungary's Jobbik party will leave behind its far-right origins, keep the country in the European Union and come to terms with foreign investors as it sets its sights on government, its leader said on Tuesday.

Jobbik, condemned throughout Europe as anti-Semitic and racist, is now the strongest opposition party in opinion polls and on Sunday won its first parliamentary seat in a first-past-the-post contest, an important electoral milestone.

Hungarian-Serbian bilateral relations better than ever said the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament László Kövér and his Serbian counterpart Maja Gojkovic in a joint press-conference in Belgrade on Thursday. According to Kövér, the two governments are working hard to lay the foundation of a strategic partnership in the current parliamentary term, which opens up a prosperous new era in bilateral relations.

Kövér stressed that the interests of the two countries are very similar on several issues. Budapest supports Belgrade's effort to speed up EU integration.
