Ukrainian President Petro Proshenko was in a joking mood today

Ukraine will meet all the conditions for EU accession in next five years said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kiev on Monday, in his opening address to the European Union-Ukraine Summit plenary session.

The Ukrainian President called on the European Union to declare that Ukraine can join the EU if it meets all the criteria for membership. Kiev expects "strong signal" from the EU in support of Ukraine's accession prospects said the president.

Moscow's activities in the east of Ukraine should not prevent Ukraine, as a European nation to be granted one of the most important freedoms, on which the European integration is based on - the right to freedom of movement said the president.

"Ukraine was indeed a member of the European family, and if it is not a member of the EU right now, it is still part of our family" summed up the situation Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission in a few meaningless words; Ukraine "therefore must strengthen its position in the European institutions within a specified time frame," added Juncker.

The head of the European Commission then stated that both Kiev and the European Union insist that the extension of the free trade zone in Ukraine should not be delayed; it should be operational on January 1, 2016, as it stands in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
