Greece protested over Estonian president's insulting remarks

Saturday, June 20, 2015

This piece of news is a bit old but still relevant; in May, it escaped my attention.

Greece summoned Estonian ambassador to Athens to the foreign ministry over the Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves' insulting remarks.

In a New York Times interview the Estonian president called the leaders of Greece, Cyprus, Hungary, and Italy "Vladimir Putin's useful idiots" because these countries have expressed dissatisfaction with the European Union sanctions against Russia.

According to the Estonian President, these countries "disrupt the unity of the European Union."
