The number of US tourists visiting Hungary is expected to grow by double-digit this year. In the first eight months of the year 17 percent more American tourists visited Hungary than in the previous year reporting the Hungarian Tourism (MT) Ltd.
Starting a direct Budapest-New York flight could further increase the number of American visitors coming to Hungary say the report.
American tourists spent 624 thousand nights in the country in the first eight months of this year, which is 14 percent more than a year before.

Between 2010 and 2014, the number of American visitors increased by 41 percent and tourist board officials expect double-digit growth this year too. US visitors spent more than HUF 103 billion last year, which is 28.6 percent more than in 2013.
The US is currently the eighth most important tourist source markets for Hungary, with annually almost 600 thousand overnight stays. Last year more than 490 thousand US tourists visited Hungary of which almost 87 percent leisure tourists and 13 percent business travelers.
Conde Nast Traveler polled its readers of the world's most preferred destinations and Budapest came out second, ahead of Vienna, Sydney Paris and Rome.
