Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said yesterday in Brussels that Hungary was fully prepared in accordance with the Schengen Agreement to introduce strict control on the Hungarian-Croatian border.

Visegrád (V4) partner states pledged military and police support for Hungary to help enforcing the law aiming to prevent migrants from entering into the country illegally. According to Prime Minister Viktor Orban, due to the V4 countries co-operation Hungary can close the Croatian border in an hour and protect it with an efficient border protection force.

In addition to the Hungarian-Czech-Slovak-Polish cooperation, local, and small municipalities are also aiding the border protection force he said.

The Head of the Prime Minister's Office János Lázár noted that the border fence proved to be very effective. He mentioned as an example the effectiveness of the border fence on the Hungarian – Serbian border. Before its construction an average of 8 to 10 thousand migrants entered into the country illegally. Since the closure of the green border a month ago, only a few hundred migrants crossed the border illegally.

Since the closure of the Hungarian - Serbian border the number of migrants entering into the country from Croatia reached 6-7 thousand a day.

Lázár has also announced that the border fence is now fully completed on the entire section of the Hungarian - Croatian border; he thanked all those who took part in the construction of the fence, and the V4 countries for helping to defend the Schengen border.
