Jobbik MP Márton Gyöngyösi: Hungary should get involved in reducing tension between Turkey and Russia

Sunday, November 29, 2015

Hungary should use its friendly relations with Moscow and Ankara to help as a mediator reducing tension between the two countries after a serious border incident earlier this week, which resulted the shooting down of a Russian aircraft by a Turkish fighter jet.

Tension between Moscow and Ankara is growing after Turkey's air force shot down a Russian fighter jet over Syria, near the Turkish border earlier this week.

Gyöngyösi stressed that both moderate and the radical opposition groups fighting in Syria aim to undermine the power of the legitimate Syrian government.

According to the Jobbik politician, this situation should make the the United States and other Western countries realize that there is not difference between the so-called "moderate" and the more radical opposition groups because they are all aiming to destabilize the middle eastern country and promote terrorism.

The current situation provides a window of opportunity for Hungary to get involved in reducing tension between Russia and Turkey; but before, the Hungarian government must acknowledge that all armed groups fighting in Syria aim to remove the legitimate Assad government from power.
