A Christian female army division has been set up in Syria to fight against the Islamic State jihadist organization.
The division will operate along the line of the Kurdish female militia.
The unit is very popular among Syrian Christian women as they also want to take part in the defence of their country.
The 36-year-old mother said her decision to join the army helped by her husband who was also a soldier of the Syrian army. He told me show the world that Assyrian women can do more than just work around the house and pass time by being obsessed with physical beauty.
"I am a Christian and a believer and when I think of my children, they give me strengthen to continue fighting against the jihadists" she said.
The Christian women division first combat experience took place as part of a coalition force made up by Kurdish, Arab and Christian militias; they liberated al-Houli town near the Iraqi border.
Because of little combat experience the women division for the time being carries out tasks in the defense of Christian communities.
Military training center leader 24 year-old Thabirta Shamir, who previously led a cultural association, said that the female troops would be deployed very soon in combat zones as well.
