HVIM co-leader Gyula György Zagyva claimed that there was no evidence against István Beke; the HVIM activist was taken into custody by Romanian police on fabricated terrorism charges last week - an obvious attempt by Romanian authorities to intimidate the Hungarian community in Romania.

Zagyva urged Hungarians around the world to support the imprisoned HVIM leader and encouraged participants to spread the news of the persecution of Hungarians in Romania on social networking sites.

Demonstrators carried HVIM, Hungarian and Székely national flags and banners with slogans like "Freedom for István Beke" and "I am István Beke, you are the terrorists".

Organizers collected money for the HVIM leader's family and distributed birthcake sparklers to participants indicating that the only serious evidence Romanian police found at the suspect's home was birthcake sparklers.

Bucharest court ordered the arrest of HVIM Kézdivásárhely leader István Beke on Tuesday accusing the activist with attempted terrorism.

Romanian organized crime and counter-terrorism Prosecutor's Office claimed that Beke wanted to blow up a home-made bomb during Romanian national holiday in Kézdivásárhely. During the house search police seized firecrackers and birthcake sparklers in support of the terrorism charges against István Beke.
