Hungary's military mission in Erbil, Northern Iraq goes ahead according to plans

The Hungarian military contingent carries out its duties in Erbil, Northern Iraq according to plans; so far, no extraordinary event interrupted the mission of the troops said the ministry of defense - the area where the Hungarian contingent deployed is under the control of Kurdish pesmerga forces.

The Hungarian contingent carries out security related operations and provides training for the Kurdish militia.

Because of the increasing military campaign against the Islamic State terrorist organization by the international community for the time being, there will be no change in the mission of the Hungarian military contingent in Iraq write the defense ministry.

The Hungarian contingent is part of an international coalition under Italian command.

Besides training and security related activities the troops carry out operations in other cities in the region and help protecting Hungarian-owned oil wells in Iraq as well.

Hungary supports the Kurdish militia with weapons and ammunition as well; it also provides medical assistance to Kurdish forces by treating wounded militiamen in Hungary.

The Hungarian military engagement in Iraq will end on December 31, 2017.
