Migration pressure on Ásotthalom increases

Friday, February 26, 2016

Ásotthalom Mayor László Toroczkai: "I do not want to relive the past (when migrants flooded the country without any control); what happens next depends on the government and the EU's decisions. It is clear that the leadership of the European Union supports the invasion of Europe. The influx of migrants could have been stopped long time ago, and even now, it is possible to stop it, in fact it should be stopped now; but if there won't be a consensus on this issue, we face a tough spring ahead..."

Toroczkai reported on Facebook that wildlife officers captured a dozen migrants in the outskirts of the municipality – all of them young men – who entered into the country illegally. It is not clear how the migrants crossed the border - most probably they cut through the fence, which is a crime according to the recent amendment of the criminal code.

While migrants are streaming toward the Hungarian border, the prime minister's senior adviser György Bakondi announced that by mid-February, more than one hundred thousand migrants arrived in the European Union.

This is more than the number of illegal immigrants arrived in Europe at the first six months of last year.

The senior adviser warned that an increasing number migrants started targeting the Hungarian-Romanian-Serbian border triangle; he mentioned one particular occasion when 150 migrants entered Romanian territory from Serbia.

On Wednesday, more than one hundred illegal immigrants were captured by Hungarian border guards.
