On Tuesday, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi told public television channel M1 that citizens of various countries are arriving in Hungary, but there are no Syrians, Afghanis of Iraqis among them.

The Chief Security Advisor pointed out that on Monday, the number of those crossing the borders illegally has reached a new record in 2016: 119 people attempted to enter Hungary illegally. This is the second time this year that this figure is above one hundred, he added. Mr. Bakondi also said that approximately 70-80 per cent of migrants make an attempt to have their asylum requests approved after their arrest.

He also explained that the number of police and military officers patrolling the borders was increased, and the equipment assisting their work was also improved: among others heat cameras and drones were installed at the borders.

The Chief Security Advisor said that the migration pressure will further increase in spring. He added that Hungary is ready to support the border protection efforts of Macedonia and Bulgaria both with manpower and equipment if the two countries specify their exact needs.
