Due to the increase in illegal migration the government beefed up police patrol in the southern border region reported M1 TV on Friday.

The number of migrants entering Hungary illegally started to increase in recent weeks. This might have been triggered by measures taken some neighboring countries that tightened their immigration rules.

Migrants once again started damaging the border fence on the Hungarian – Serbian border, which called for increased police presence in the area.

As a result, police have doubled the number of police officers on duty in the border region and this Friday additional units have been sent to the Serbian border reported M1 TV.

Serbian newspaper Danas citing diplomatic sources, suggested that by the spring most EU countries are expected to hermetically seal their borders.

Unnamed sources also told the daily newspaper that Croatia is also planning to build a fence on its border with Serbia, which probably prompts Serbia to construct a fence on its border with Macedonia.

It is expected that the European Union will ask Serbia to provide shelter to six thousand migrants, which is roughly the capacity of Serbian reception centers.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic recently stated that Serbia is under no obligation to play its part in the European quota system, but if the need arises, it can accept a few thousand migrants, but not hundreds of thousands.
