Former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Crimea Natalia Poklonskaya may run for president

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Poklonskaya has been elected in the State Duma as a member of United Russia party. According to Forbes, she might even run for president in the 2018 Russian presidential election.

Although a new poll by Levada Institute showed that 55 percent of those surveyed think that Vladimir Putin should run for president for another term, 10 percent of respondents believe that Russia needs a new leader who would continue Putin's policies.

Recently, Poklonskaya was appointed as a deputy chairwoman of a parliamentary committee that main task is to combat corruption, extremism and terrorism. In July Poklonskaya said if elected, she would like to join a committee working on Eurasian integration.

The Russian Social, Economic and Political Studies Institute named her number 16 among the top 100 most promising politicians.

Thirty-six year-old Natalia Poklonskaya is especially popular in Japan. She is the head of Japan-Russia Friendship Association and on June 11, 2015 Russian President Vladimir Putin granted her Judicial Commissioner title.

Poklonskaya is very popular both in China and Japan; millions of people follow her press-conferences on Youtube in both countries. Because of her anime-style images she also attracted international media attention.

According to Google, she was the seventh most searched person on Internet in Russia, and the second most searched in Ukraine. The New York Observer and Die Welt called her a sex symbol.

She is the woman who is not only beautiful, but also very smart; her influence, power, and popularity are recognized both in East and West. She can open up new perspectives in Russian politics if she elected as president in 2018. A major disadvantage in her future career is the role she played in the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014 - then, she was the chief prosecutor of the peninsula.
