Disagreement among nationalists over Ásotthalom municipal council's resolution on Muslim faith

Monday, November 28, 2016

One of the emblematic figures of the Hungarian nationalist movement Mihály Zoltán Orosz strongly disagrees with Toroczkai’s position on Muslim faith summed up in a resolution issued by the municipal council of Ásotthalom last week.

Mayor of Érpatak Mihály Zoltán Orosz released the following statement as a reaction to the above mentioned resolution.

Mayor statement on local government decree in Ásotthalom

Dear Believer Muslim Community, Dear Christian Brothers!

As a Hungarian catholic mayor I would like to share with you my opinion about the self-governing regulation at Ásotthalom which is a violation against a sacred religion, its traditions and in a sense its followers:

1./ I believe that it is a huge mistake to confuse the devoted believers of Islam who live an exemplary life with the illegal immigrants who are streaming to Europe or with those people who stayed in their country but live an immoral, criminal life and who had refused their religion and the religious life. These criminals have nothing to do with Islam. One can not judge the Muslim community based on these bad examples.

2./ In my opinion the crisis of immigration has nothing to do with wars of religion. Christians and Muslims are not enemies, in this atheistic world they are natural allies. We should think about each other this way. Every catholic Christian person should remember the statement of the synod: “The Church regards with esteem also the Moslems. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all- powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet. They also honor Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting. Since in the course of centuries not a few quarrels and hostilities have arisen between Christians and Moslems, this sacred synod urges all to forget the past and to work sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom.”

3./ The reputation of Islam religion and the civilization around it is consciously destructed by western propaganda. In Europe none of the nationalist mayors should take part in this unacceptable process. Not to mention the enhancement of these hate speeches which are represented in the hope to gain popularity.

4./ Christians and Muslims should not look at each other as enemies. The enemy is in the darkness of their consciousness which does not allow them to see clearly in an important matter like this.

5./ It is utterly wrong and incomprehensible for a politician and mayor to inchoate such a decree, in that the honorable Muslim believers who live according to the laws of God are mentioned as they were the same as the lecherous people who live outside the Law and whose activity is focusing on the destruction of society.

Érpatak, 26 November 2016

Yours sincerely:

Mihály Zoltán Orosz
Mayor of Érpatak
