FM Péter Szijjártó is in Moscow to prepare President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to Budapest

After a very long time, we believe that the emerging new global environment once again in favor of strengthening Hungarian-Russian relations - said Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó before meeting his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.

The Hungarian government aiming for a very successful summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest in February. Bilateral relations suffered a great deal due to sanctions, but agreements to boost bilateral cooperation especially, regional cooperation, Hungarian technology investments in Russian agriculture, and in the industrial sector developing according to plans said Szijjártó.

The Hungarian foreign minister emphasized that he was looking forward to meet his Russian counterpart not only as foreign minister, but also as a friend. He thanked Lavrov for the condolences to the Verona bus accident victims and their families. The Hungarian delegation wearing a black ribbon for a national day of mourning.

Lavrov said the main objective of the meeting was to prepare a successful summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The two sides also reviewed the implementation of agreements reached during Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s last year visit in Moscow.

The head of the Russian diplomacy expressed his condolences to the Verona bus accident victims and their families.

Szijjártó: There is an urgent need for an European-Russian reconciliation

Moscow Monday, 2017 January 23 (MTI) Hungary believes that there is an urgent need for reconciliation between the EU and Russia - said Péter Szijjártó after meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow - the two foreign ministers held a joint press conference following the meeting.

"If the EU and Russia can’t come to an agreement on the basis of pragmatic cooperation, the EU will suffer serious setback in international economic and political competition" - said the Hungarian foreign minister adding that for the first time in a long time the global environment is in favor of expanding Hungarian-Russian cooperation.
