According to information obtained by the news portal, the victims - a man and a woman, both of them homeless - froze to death.

Police said the circumstances of the deaths were still under investigation.

This is the second such tragic event in the past couple of days. Friday night the body of a homeless man was found in the capital. The victim probably froze to death during the night in the IX. district, behind a department store, near a gas station.

Because of the extreme cold red alert was issued for Nógrád county on Sunday.

The second highest level alert was issued for the capital and three counties as well; in addition, first-degree warning was issued for ten other counties by the National Weather Service due to the extreme cold - the temperature can drop below minus 27 degrees Celsius in the capital on Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a warning on Saturday on its Facebook page forecasting near-record low temperature for Sunday as the wind dies down, and a dry air mass invades the country; temperature will drop quickly, and we face the coldest night of the winter so far.

In addition, blizzard warning was issued for Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Vas and Zala counties.
