Monday, January 9, 2017

Monday morning, blowing snow advisory was issued for Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Veszprém and Zala counties by the National Weather Service.

Due to the extreme cold, which is expected to continue in the next couple of days Budapest Mayor István Tarlós ordered the opening of new night shelters to the homeless reported the Metropolitan Municipality Law Enforcement Directorate on Monday.

Bitter cold grips Eastern Europe and other parts of the continent as well. In parts of Poland the temperature dropped below minus 42.9 degrees Celsius on Monday, which broke all previous records.
