“Today I want to share with you some important news. I will be departing Budapest on January 20 after completing my assignment here as the U.S. Ambassador to Hungary. Thank you, Hungary, for the kindness and friendship you have shown me and my family. I will miss serving in this position, but will continue my commitment to building stronger ties between our two countries. I look forward to saying my farewells, both formally and informally, over the next couple of weeks.” writes Colleen Bell on Facebook.

All political appointees will be recalled to Washington before Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20 reported The New York Times.

The US State Department sent a letter regarding the decision to all political appointees on December 23 wrote the US daily.

The document said the move affected all overseas political appointees, - those ambassadors who are appointed because of their close relationship with Obama.

According to AFSA, more than a third of all US ambassadors (including Colleen Bell) are political appointees; only the rest count as career diplomats, who often remain in office after the change of government.
