This year's Day of Honor Memorial attended by hundreds of people to pay tribute to fallen soldiers and civilians died while attempting to break the siege of Budapest in the last days of the second world war.
Tens of thousands of people - including civilians - died as joint German - Hungarian forces launched a last desperate attempt to break out of the encircled city. Out-gunned and outnumbered they had practically no chance to succeed. The breakout attempt went down in history as the second world war’s most hopeless military undertaking.
