Besides the energy sector Hungarian - Russian cooperation may expand to other sectors as well

The announcement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Russian President Vladimir Putin that Hungarian - Russian collaboration can be expanded to other sectors as well is very good news for Hungary said the Head of Zsigmond Király University Geopolitical Research Centre Ágnes Bernek to M1 TV.

According to the expert, Hungary can only benefit from joining the Turkish Stream that can replace the South Stream Pipeline that was shut down by the European Union after intimidating Bulgaria to the point that it eventually withdrew from the project.

The Turkish and the Nord Stream pipelines

According to Bernek, it is very important that both the Turkish Stream and the Nord Stream pipelines were announced at the same time; this is very beneficial for our country because if Hungary can't receive natural gas or crude oil through Ukraine, it can get it through the Nord Stream that runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to Greifswald in Germany.

The Russian president gave a guarantee that even if Ukrainian transit lines become unavailable for whatever reason, Hungary still will continue receiving Russian natural gas either through the Turkish Stream or the Nord Stream pipelines.

The two leaders also announced that Hungary and Russia start cooperating in space technology, which is an excellent news for Hungarian high tech companies. Bernek remarked that this will be the first time that Hungarian companies can get an opportunity to participate in advanced international space projects.
